District Councils have been using RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act) to target "minor" offences such as dog fouling and littering. There's more on it in
today's papers.
I'd be quite happy for Harringay to "snoop" on dog fouling and fly tippers, except that I suspect they'd spend a lot of money doing it badly, with little overall effect.
What do you think? Is it an infringement of human rights to use surveillance for "minor" crimes? Or do you think it's fair enough if it results in cleaner streets and prosecution for offenders?
