Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Support Friern Barnet library, not least because Haringey could be next

Friern Barnet library was shut by Barnet Council, with easyBoss Nick Walkley.  It was then occupied and re-opened. Barnet Council have started proceedings to evict the occupation, please sign the petition to ask them to re-think.

Why is this relevant to Haringey?  Because Nick Walkley has been provisonally appointed as CEO for Haringey. From a slash-and-burn Tory council, to Labour-run Haringey, appointed by a cross-party selection panel. Expect to have to occupy big chunks of Haringey provision soon, if Walkley carries on with his easyCouncil (everything simple and cheap, ie gone) policy. There is a lobby of the Council Cabinet Tuesday 16th October at 5.45 pm, Wood Green Town Hall, to question this bizarre decision.

It's only the 9th today - the lobby in Wood Green is next week.  But in the meantime you could sign this petition:

Say no to Haringey 'easyCouncil' Chief Executive

Thanks, fixed it. Good job as I was about to go looking for a 41 bus.

I receive the Friern Barnet Library emails - sounds like they're doing a good job at occupying it. Petition signed.

I think its only fair to point out the declared policy of Haringey Council on libraries.

To the council's credit, no libraries have been closed, even as some misguided neighbouring London boroughs cut theirs.

I probably would disagree with the Council Leader about some things, but not about this. I have heard Ms Kober speak fairly passionately about the value of the library service and the need to keep libraries open.

Haringey's library service is at least one thing in Haringey that works well. It's a genuine public service, on the front line, visible and valued. There is little to no scope for corruption in this department. Staff are helpful.

I'm not convinced that the appointment of Mr Walkley should be linked to the possible disappearance of the library service.
