Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There was an interesting discussion on sg.org a little while back about HoL. I picked up on the start of it then forgot to go back to it.

They make some interesting points. sg.org is more sociable. Should we try and encourage more of that? Should Liz and I stand back more? Anything else we can learn from what they've said?

that sounds like an interesting piece of research. Do you know izwe? They are doing council sites rather than community sites but interesting.
Thanks Kamilla. We hope it will be!

I do know izwe, and I've had it explained to me three times, but I still can't get it. I was at a drinks function chatting with Richard Wilson a couple of weeks ago and said as much to him. I asked for the elevator pitch version, but unfortunately the speaker interrupted him at the 687th floor and sadly I'm still none the wiser. (Having said that Richard seemed like a smashing guy and was very tired that night..).

Do you work in this field?
Hi Hugh
I don't work in this technical field but I am working in the field of 'community empowerment' (whatever that is - I could go on and on about a definition!) and am very interested in community sites. Have you read Local is Social (or is it the other way round? I am going to do a little comparison (just for myself) on Stroud Green and Harringay - I'm on the border so I can justify belonging to both as I shop and eat on Green Lanes! I'll let you know my findings (from a punter rather than from a technical point of view). izwe is funded within a community empowerment programme that I am evaluating so I tried hard to get to grips with it. I understand the concept and what they are trying to do but not the technical stuff at all. I can explain - over a drink sometime perhaps.
If you mean Local by Social, yup I know it and Harringay Online is in there on Page 19.

I'd be interested to see what criteria you choose for your comparison as well as the results. I've added you as a connection so perhaps we can arrange for a drink via HoLMail.
Ok will get on to my critieria and that little comparison this weekend. It will be from a user point of view rather than an expert as I am a complete novice on social networking - but that might actually be quite helpful!
Absolutely!
