Stroud Greeners Seek Local Votes to Create 'Community Space' by Harringay Station
A group of Stroud Greeners are asking locals to vote for their plans to enhance the space at the western end of the footbridge to Harringay station.

So is TESCO thinking of regenerating the New Istanbul Supermarket & Impress Dry Cleaning as a Quernmore Tesco Express ? Not at all clear where this new 'Community Space' is going to insert itself. If in the middle of the carriageway, how can delivery vehicles or Veolia get to the shops or the residents' wheelie bins? No dimensions given in the website, as far as I can see. The space between the footbridge and Stapleton Hall Road is more than a cul de sac - it's a useful community space already; don't ruin it with buzz words and poncy ideas.

I haven't seen this at the Tottenham branch either (I refuse to call it a superstore when they never have anything on my list - "no we don't do organic eggs here"). But the website says from 31 October.
Or do you have to buy a 5p bag to get a token?

I would feel better about this project if whoever is behind it hadn’t painted over half of the Quernmore Rd mural in order to write a notice about it. This happened at the weekend. The mural was admittedly getting a bit tatty and could do with re-painting, but there was no need to paint over, a sign could just as easily have been attached to the railings. The mural was painted in 2006 and I think that local children were involved in this.Why did whoever did the painting think that they had the right to do this? And what is going to happen to the space once the voting is over - perhaps an advert for Tescos?A local PR company is one of the organisations behind this project, well as far as I am concerned this vandalism is bad PR!Konrad

I like the idea. They had me with the first bit about their plans, then lost me at 'just shop at Tesco etc etc'. No.

I am quite sympathetic to the ideas being mooted and the role of design in community building, but what made the organisers see fit to obliterate a schools/community mural in order to advertise this newer venture? It would be interesting to know if the school was consulted. In this light, this smacks of gentrification - which ultimately divides us.
