Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Has anyone else noticed a steep decline in the cleanliness of the Harringay Passage? The section between Hewitt and Falklands has not been cleaned for many days and the Fairfax Rd. park is awful. There are broken bottles, cans, litter, discarded clothes etc. - not to mention the red bins which are overflowing and smelling.

The Passage is used by many young children on their way to and from school and the park is equally used by several different groups.

I spoke to a street cleaner who told me that several street cleaners had been "let go due to cut backs" and that the cleaner who covered this area was one of them.

I fear that this is becoming an Environmental Health issue, particularly as the weather improves.

There was an advertiswed meeting on April 15

Ok, missed that. It wasn't meant as a criticism.
St Anne's, Harringay road, Colina, Park and Glenwood rd as well as the passage to the estate next to St John Vianey school are all littered with rubbish all the time. People just dump stuff everywhere, throw garbage out of their car windows and generally have no concern for others. We have complained to the council before but the problem is still bad

These addresses are in St Ann's ward. So, as both Hugh and Liz suggest, if you've gone through the Council's reporting and complaints procedures without any positive result, it probably is  time to contact your councillors.

In any case most ward councillors should be out and about seeing for themselves and/or listening to residents describing local problems. And right now they'll be active in the General Election Campaign delivering leaflets and knocking on doors. So more assiduous than usual in reporting dumping, litter etc.

When I was one of the three councillors for Tottenham Hale ward, we worked together to report dumping and other street problems. To avoid duplication we copied one another in about stuff we'd reported. And occasionally went for walks together in different parts of the ward.

I was an early user of a digital camera and sometimes councillors from other wards asked me to go out with them and send in photos recording problems. Now any councillor can get issued with a smartphone if they request it. So unless they have a disability it should really be standard practice. If you are in a local residents' association you might want to invite your three ward councillors on a regular walkabout in problem areas.
