‘Get Creative Festival’ comes to Tottenham with Drawing Class on the St Ann’s Hospital site?

Community-led housing group (StART) finds interim use for St Ann’s hospital site by holding drawing classes on the grounds, and joins community groups across the country taking part in the Get Creative Festival

The Get Creative Festival, taking place between Saturday 11th and Sunday 19th May 2019, shines a light on cultural activities that takes place in local communities and encourages people to try something new.

Vivien Young, the StART member leading the class said: “While StART’s main aim is to ensure genuinely affordable housing on the St Ann’s site we are also looking at ways in which St Ann’s can continue to serve the community through this transition phase. By drawing attention to – and literally drawing - the precious trees that are on the site, we hope to protect them for the future generations that will live there as new housing plans are created."

The St Ann’s Redevelopment Trust (StART) as part of the GLA’s landmark development, has turned it’s attention to alternative uses for the site in the interim, in particular focusing on the many rare and unusual trees set in grounds. StART’s focus on keeping the “health legacy” of this historic hospital agrees that the therapeutic media of art can assist the promotion of health and well-being.
