Speed bumps removed from ladder road

Raleigh Road was resurfaced recently and the speed bumps have been removed. Has this happened in other ladder roads? Has there been any consultation with local residents? Very worrying as cars are being driven dangerously fast.

Useful to know who the best contacts are, thank you Alan - do you have contact email addresses? The speed that some drivers are getting up to on Raleigh Road since the new surface was put down / speed bumps removed is unbelievable!

Stuart was around a few days ago. I recently wrote to Bernice and got an auto-reply, so she may have been away. August is holiday time for many councillors but most should be back by now.

Copy-in your three ward councillors. Although please bear in mind the potential problem that an email to everybody can become an email to nobody in particular. So make it clear why you are copying them and what specific action you're requesting. In this case spell out your concern that from your own personal observations the removal of the bumps appears dangerous.

Perhaps invite them to go to the place and see for themselves - maybe they can meet you there. (Stuart McNamara likes doing this. Though plainly his time is constrained as he has a borough-wide remit, with an absurdly large range of responsibilities.)

I phoned the Council straight after the bank holiday and was told to email frontline, which I did. Got a reply to say that they would get back to me by the 15th ... That's really not good enough! Will also follow Alan's helpful suggestions.

I have just heard back from the Highways Department who have apologised for the delay and hope to put the humps and road markings back in the week beginning 21st September.

Hopefully, they will keep to their word!

How odd that resurfacing and speed bump replacement was not better coordinated. Presumably residents were told the resurfacing was happening as people would have had to move their cars.

Also how inefficient that residents have to wend their way through various bureaucratic layers to get a simple answer to a straightforward question about what's going on in their own street. The overpaid management gurus who dreamed up Call Centres have a lot to answer for.

However, the delay between resurfacing and reinstatement of the bumps provided Haringey with a chance to measure the impact of the bumps on vehicle speed. A learning Local Council which was on the ball would have grabbed this opportunity to test the speed reduction measures.

A proper measurement of the impact of bumps might be interesting but from observation these past few weeks, they do make a big difference. Not all drivers are speeding but some are going very very fast.

Apparently the Highways Department use different contractors to do the resurfacing and the speed humps. Not sure who is responsible for repainting the SLOW signs but have asked them to make sure they do that too! At this rate they won't be giving us much notice to move our cars when the next lot of works take place.
