Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Spate of burglaries postman robbery and our car vandalised in Hampden Lane N17

I seen a number of worrying posts re break-ins on the ladder roads but i wanted to give the word up about Hampden Lane off the old Tottenham High Road.

A break in during the day last month, then post man with his cart was robbed in day light from a car a week ago, and on Saturday our car was badly vandalised with keying all over it and the bonnet looks like a gang tag has been scratched into it. The police are looking into the possible tagging.

A neighbours friend who lives further up the actual high street had their second story balcony accessed and was robbed as they slept, they have no home insurance.

It seems there is a wave of break-ins and mindless vandalism.

Do any ladder roads have a community CCTV set up as we in our neighbors group are thinking of setting cameras up. Police and council say they cant afford CCTV for our lane.

Any thoughts?

Best

Has the "increase" in Policing in Muswell Hill that Lynne Featherstone asked for last month happened yet? I say "increase" because these officers will just be moved from somewhere else in Haringey. I hate to say it but now is NOT the time to cut policing.

Rather alarming to hear that the post is being robbed, yesterday's posting about the remnants of a haul in the passage is another example.

John the worrying thing is the break ins are getting worse and bolder.

We have asked for years for CCTV in the lane and the police claime it costs a 100k ?! how a camera cost that much. We have had multiple incidents here over several years that must have cost that yet we doubt we can council or police to grant us cameras.

Our car was parked outside neighbours cottages and its a vicious attack. If there was CCTV there would be evidence.

How you can there be cuts when there is so much criminality going on?

We have 10 years no claimes and now we will be paying for a mindless act of vandalisim that police cannot do anything about.

I cant imagine having my home broken into via a front balcony. Let alone these ladder break ins where the front doors are being forced. Its enough to make one want to make the move out of London.

Its enough to make one want to make the move out of London.

Right folks, let's all bail out before we get caught in the rush. Poland? Bulgaria? Romania? Kazakhstan? Crimea?  Some of them are bound to have lebensraum, with well policed neighbourhoods, for distressed Harringay and Tottenham DPs.

You seem to be attacking my post. Why?

Our car alone is going to cost a few £1000 and we cant afford to have it happen again because some gang idiot has picked us out. Over seven years we have endured multiple issues in our lane.

Think before you post offensive replies please.

Oh VIX, think before you link. Several of the incidents you link together almost certainly have no necessary connection, yet you string them together with one or two other fairly recent posts to create a series or a network of alarm from the Ladder to Tottenham High Road. We have this sort of faux-alarm from time to time on sites like this. I agree, there are probably any number of excellent reasons for (thinking about) the move out of London  - and perhaps for you this is the big one. If you find this offensive, well there we are - but Think before you Link!

Still don't get where you are going with this.

Not going nowhere, VIX. Staying right here in Harringay.

That's a shame..

Im not sure that  criminality and vandalism is just a london problem. I was brought up in the sticks where there are plenty of jobless, bored young people causing a nuisance too.

Is this one for a Neighbourhood Watch or similar? Do they still exist?

I'd be interested (at the top of the ladder) if anyone could help with contact details.  I had a google and found a Haringey  Association of Neighbourhood Watches but couldn't see anything about joining ....

When we asked for neighbour hood watch window stickers the police attending our residents meeting took our details and then failed to send us the sticker pack. Total joke.

My advice is to get a residents group going, truth to say that there is strength in numbers, as the council and police have to listen when there are enough locals all banging the same drum.

Happy to advise. x

We can't guarantee parking outside where we live. No other car was damaged and there expensive cars parked in our Lane, way more expensive and fancy than our family car. My concern if they have targeted our car they will vandalise it again. We are testing a camera. We are thinking of where to house the car over night. There is a car in a neighbouring street covered in paint.
