Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

At around 4am someone was banging on our front door and trying to get in with keys for a long time. They then somehow managed to get into our back garden to try and get in our back door. They tried to a long time but didn't smash anything, and no one heard any voices.

Did this happen to anyone else? Do you know anyone who could be so drunkenly mistaken? We don't think it was anything scary but any answers would help solve the mystery!

It may well be an address error, about year ago my wife heard the wheels of a suitcase on our drive, then keys being tried in the door, when challenged, it turned out that they had rented a house in the next road.

I'm afraid the existence of HarringayOnline, or rather of social media generally, is unintentionally encouraging a high level of learned helplessness!

Jess Reid, just what sort of answers are you expecting from anyone on here to "solve the mystery" that did or didn't happen 7 hours earlier at your front door and back garden?  Did you or anyone else in your house/family not think to challenge or welcome the mysterious phantom keyholder who probably owned the house you now occupy, perhaps back in the late 19th or early 20th century. He/She must have been distraught that someone had changed the locks in their absence. Next time, please call out to this Traveller to reassure and welcome them at 4am rather than waiting to post pointlessly on Hol seven hours later. Don't be like the silent LISTENERS:

" 'Is there anyone there?' said the Traveller, knocking on the moonlit door,

While his horse in the silence champed the grasses of the forest's ferny floor . . ."

As you say, it may not have been anything scary - BUT did your 4am caller have a horse? "Tell them I came and No-one answered, That I kept my word," he said.

OAE...I imagined that Jess may have been on her own and was too distressed to challenge them, although if I was a lone female I would at least shout out that I was calling the police.

As for the traveller theory OAE, it could have been Wee Willie Winkie..

'Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town,
Up stairs and down stairs in his night-gown,
Tapping at the window, crying at the lock'

Or Paul McCartney...

'Someone's knockin' at the door
somebody's ringin' the bell
Someone's knockin' at the door
somebody's ringin' the bell
Do me a favour open the door and let'em in'.
