How has Haringey Council done with the latest snowfall? Here's the feedback I've been able to find out there on the interwebs so far:

Okay.........just driven from Kentish Town to Wightman Road via Holloway. No evidence of gritting on Islington or Haringey roads. The lights at the top of Burgoyne, junction of Wightman are causing lots of problems particularly as your car can't get purchase after stopping at lights. Have had to leave my car near Jewsons and walk to Cavendish.

Gritting of pavements on Wightman doesn't seem to have been very effective. Maybe the grit should go down AFTER the snow has fallen ?

Roads treacherous in Lewisham Hackney Islington Haringey. Well-gritted in Barnet#snow
Any more from any more? Any good news for the Council? Are we just being unfair? Is the winter just snowy and that's it and all about it?

I think the council have done a reasonable job. The snow fell late in the day, and by the morning (when I went out) most of the main roads were passable. Regarding the pavements, there were a team of council bods out, on Green Lanes, with shovels and grit when I went for my breakfast at Café Lemon; doing a good job.
If people are going to moan about the councils response then I have to ask what have they done to prepare:
Why do you not have snow chains? (we all heard the snow warnings)
If you have a pavement outside did you clear it?
Do you have a bag of salt/shovel etc...?
It would be nice to see a few more bins down the south end of the ladder, to allow more people to grit their paths and pavements. Also it would be good to see the ladder roads gritted.
Those are my observations, to which I am entitled to as much as any other resident. Observations don't always equal moaning and criticism!
It goes without saying that I am hugely grateful to all those who keep the borough running, through difficult conditions. A big thank you to everyone who has been out there today, shovelling, helping neighbours and clearing pathways and pavements. Snow chains and more grit bins - great idea - we got the council to add some more on the steeper roads but perhaps a couple more would be useful. And yes, for the record, I did clear the pavement outside my house and helped clear some of the Harringay Passage.
I'm not getting involved in the 'who should do what' conversation; just data from me:
I walked Dunloe Avenue, Clonmell Road to Phillip Lane & back by Downhills Park Road to Higham Road. No sign of any gritting. One or two households had cleared the pavement outside their homes. I wore a high-viz vest & found it easier to walk on the minor roads than the pavements.
I can manage but have a concern for the elderly etc.
Yesterday, there wasn't a single gritter in my immediate area. I went to work this morning thinking that some gritters would be out today. When I came back.... nothing. People were slipping over everywhere. I work for Islington Council, and I had to help grit today, despite my change in job title. Many streets in Islington were gritted, most of Haringey's (at least in my area) were not.
Plenty of grit in the boxes at the end of the road but no roads gritted round Hornsey Lane area. We've done our own gritting and digging cars out of their parking spaces. No pavements gritted at all. I know this isn't Harringey but it is Haringey!
I think the council have done a good job this time round, adn i was pleased to see teams of workers out clearing the pavements on wightman on monday morning.
however, perhaps someone from the council could answer a question that's been bothering me.
I saw lots of gritters going around, but none of them had ploughs attached. It's always struck me as a bit silly (in my admittedly amateur opinion) that instead of clearing away the snow and gritting what can't be cleared, we just spread the grit straight onto four inches of snow.
I know the council are strapped for cash, but a plough is a one off investment, and barring crashes unlikely to wear out, and in comparison to the cost of the gritting vehicles, relatively minor.
No doubt however this has all been considered by the council one way or another - I'm just interested to hear any reasons behind the decision.
And they could get rid of the speed bumps at the same time
Gets my vote .
