Some of D&P's 400 perfumes Photo:Hugh
I've walked past D&P Perfumes any number of times and not paid it much attention. Then at the Harringay Traders' Christmas lunch I was introduced to the shop's owner Özgür Yildrim. Today I dropped in on my way past to find out a little more about the business.
Özgür came to the UK thirteen years ago from Istanbul to study for a degree in human resources. Somewhere along the line her passion for helping manage people turned into a passion for making them smell wonderful (that's got be a step up!).
Last August Özgür opened the first branch of D&P in the UK. Outside of the UK it's already a thriving business with 400 branches in Turkey and 80 elsewhere in Europe.
D&P don't simply remarket big brand perfumes, they recreate them using perfume essences from France. When you go in to the shop, you can choose from over 400 different items. Each one has been created to be exactly similar to a successful big brand.
Özgür said, "It's never going to be exactly the same, but it's so close, most people can't tell the difference"
You won't get a fancy bottle and you won't be buying directly into Champs Elysee branding, but, according to Özgür, you will be getting a great quality product at 75% of the branded perfume price.
A 30ml bottle is £10, 50ml is £15 and 100 ml is twenty. There are always good offers on too, I was told. At the moment there's a buy one get one free deal.
Is it any good? To be honest, I don't know. Özgür told me that in fact they use more essence and less alcohol than the big brands. So she claims that D&P perfumes last longer. So, put it to the test Harringay and let us all know.

Hello Hugh
thanks for mentioning D&P here, I was getting round to it..
my Mum got some perfume from d&P in november and yes it is as close as you can get to the real thing and Ozgur is a very friendly person on top of the speedy and professional service d&p offers. I will try d&p myself as well soon hopefully and I would encourage people to try Ozgur's clever and quality service as well :)

Hi Jessica
I do see your point about people liking certain brands and the presentation that goes with it but you get a good quality perfume for a very reasonable price at places like d&p when they are good at what they do and d&p is good at what it does. What you see in shop shelves is in the end is made in the same way d&p makes its perfumes and the packaging and image is what you pay for so as Hugh has pointed out, the price is more affordable at d&p's ...
I also like the idea that you could come up with your own perfumes as well if you want to be a bit creative and ask Ozgur to bottle it for you...
