Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Eventually, after months & months of this, the job was finished! The scaffolding was removed & not only in Scales Road had the apartment block opposite had a make over, (new windows, new roofs etc) but also the apartment blocks in Circular Road.

For the first time for months I had peaceful sleeps & my neighbours were put out of their suffering.

But hang on, there's a hitch. Or two hitches.

1. Involved the apartment block opposite & Right to Buy.

Some of the residents in the apartment block opposite me have exercised their right to buy.

Consequently they are not Council tenants.

Talking to one of them the other day I was horrified to learn that Homes for Haringey have now dumped a £25,000 charge on the right to buy residents.

H for H have pointed out quite rightly they could not just do the Council apartments: when it come to replacing the roof everything has to be done. It has to be "holistic."

The residents involved I gather would like to fight the Council in the Courts but naturally are worried about costs, so probably won't.  Meanwhile a black cloud of worry & anxiety has settled down on Tottenham Hale.

2. The second hitch involved me.

I had sat it out, the Winter War. Foolishly I thought if I ignored it long enough it would go away. But then there was the dreaded knock on the door, scaffolding went up around my house.

They arrived.

Note: I am trying to give a record of what happened. This is why I am not replying just yet to any of the points made by correspondents, as setting this down, reliving the trauma, is hard enough.
