Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Now forget all your blue rinse prejudices, real Sherry (the complete antithesis of the sweet yucky stuff everyone drank in the UK in the 70s) is one of the world's greatest wines, made in a myriad of wonderful styles.
Over one evening (an hour and a half) I'll take you through the world of Sherries; explaining the mystery of how it's made and tasting a flight of Sherries progressing through all the classic styles - FinoManzanillaPalo CortadoAmontillado and Oloroso and Oloroso Dulce.  Being wine made for tapas, there will of course be appropriately high quality snacks to match the wines!
Sherry Night is a single evening event, which costs £40 and will run out of my house in N4 on Wednesday 10th August.
If you're unsure about Sherry or think you don't like it I strongly urge you to think again!  The real thing is a wonderful wine that makes for a great wine tasting evening.
If you're interested, please contact me asap on hugo@viavino.co.uk, as there are only a few places left.

Best,

Hugo.

I'm quite interested but not at £40 a go! I could get a full meal plus wine for 2 for that from many of the local restaurants!

Nice idea, but this is Harringey not Chelsea....we're not that rich!

i LOVE sherry

Speak for yourself why don't you Kerrie.

Hugo have you considered a night that may be more affordable to the poor locals of Harringay?  Perhaps something involving  cans and bottles of this, this or this. Something we are more accustomed to? lastly do you have a an area we can tie up our  pit bulls, fight, vomit, piss and sleep? Hopefully but not necessarily in that order?

Hello Kerrie,

You're welcome to your opinion, but I think forty quid in fact represents excellent value.  You get a line-up of seven excellent (and expensive) Sherries, covering all the classic styles of the wine, all of which are accompanied by really decent snacks to go throughout the evening (not just a few dry crackers).  Last but by no means least you also get a thoroughly researched and painstakingly produced lectured guide through the world of Sherry, something that took me about a month of work to prepare.  You end up with an really good understanding of the mysterious world of sherry and all its styles, hopefully presented in a fun but educational manner.  I'm a fully qualified and accredited wine educator and also a judge in the Sherry section (amongst other sections) of the International Wine and Spirit Competition (that award the medals you see stuck on bottles of wine in the shops).  Just buying the seven Sherries by the glass in a bar would cost about the same, without any of the snacks or the professional education.  Personally I think the price is snip.

But beyond all I've said above, when I'm working really hard to try and make an honest business out of this (I'm a full time wine educator, it's not something I do in my spare time), when you make comments like that you could be discouraging other people from taking part.  You're not obliged to sign up after all!  I've been running courses like this out of my house in Pemberton Road for about a year now and I've been full up every time, for both six week courses and one-off evenings.  So it seems there are plenty of people in Harringay that realise what value for money I offer and what a fun evening they can have.

Regards,

Hugo
