Circle of Seven Chestnuts in Finsbury Park by the gate on Green Lanes
Pausing for a break the other day, I noticed a circle of seven chestnut trees by the New River in Finsbury Park.
Seven Sisters was named after a seven tree circle, as was Sevenoaks - and I think a number of other places.
I've had a quick Google and can't put my hand readily to an explanation. Does anyone know the significance of seven tree circles?

Thanks guys.
Whilst we're pondering, this puzzle asks you to come up with a special arrangement for seven trees:
You have seven trees to plant. They need to be arranged in six rows with three trees in each row. How do you do it?
Note: A tree may be part of more than one row. For example, here is a view from above of five trees arranged in two rows with three trees in each row.
Solution here.
I got all excited that it might be a seven pointed star but no.
I'm so rubbish at this sort of thing.
Time waster!! I did mine in a star shape in a minute and got 6 rows, and then gave up as I have things to do!!!
I'm going to look at those trees - they seem to be showing no signs of the disease afflicting horse chestnuts - when the leaves go all brown in the summer.
And don't forget the seven trees planted on Tottenham Green by the Tree Trust for Haringey some years ago, each one planted by one of seven sisters. [Get the connection?] And the Wicca circle of twelve oaks [ only ten survive] in Lordship recreation ground, also by the TTfH. Lordship Rec looking great, by the way, though the wildflower meadows are past their peak, but full of butterflies
Has it to do with trees in a circle and the number seven ?
Hi - when I was living near Sevenoaks thename was a bit of a mystery - one local suggestion does however tie in with this from Wikipedia (?!) "The town's name is derived from the Saxon word "Seouenaca", the name given to a small chapel near seven oak trees in Knole Park around AD 800." There is also Five Ashes (kent border) so it may be more the trees than the number? But the oak has always been special for its age. Seven Oaks lost one or more in the 87 gale.
