Haringey residents will be able to see the contribution made by civil engineers to infrastructure in the borough by the Markfield Beam Engine and House as part of Open House London on Saturday 22 September 2012 and Sunday 23 September 2012.
The Markfield Beam Engine and House, which is located next to the River Lee, opened in 1886 and original Grade II Listed Building is now home to a museum where the principal exhibit is the Wood Brothers Steam Pumping Engine from 1886.
The engine has been restored and can be seen operating under steam power in the renovated pumping house of the former sewage treatment works for Tottenham.
