Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Interested in whether others have hit problems with Haringey's rules on proof of address.

In their booklet is says this has to take the form of a gas/electricity bill dated within three months of Oct 31 2016. On the online form it asks for the same bills, but says they have to be dated within six months.

Our problem is we only get bills every six months and is last one is dated 13 May (so a couple of weeks within the 6 month rule but well outside the 3 month one). We've got lots of other bills that are more recent, but there is no information anywhere about the validity of these.

Is anyone else worrying about this? I'm assuming we can just attach the one that is within 6 months and be done with it, but a bit concerned about the fact that the two systems contradict one another.

Surely the one thing that would entitle you to an education in the borough is a council tax record? I think you are falling foul of rules designed to catch out people renting near the school they want to get into.

You're right. They ask for council tax record number as well as the utility bill.

I don't have experience of this, but I do have experience of dealing with Haringey school admissions and having to appeal.

If I was you I would ring admissions and double check, but only if you won't miss the deadline for application.

If you can't call them before the deadline (I know it's half term this week but I'm not sure if admissions are affected by that) I would send the bills that they've asked for AND some more recent ones and put a note on the application saying why you've done this. I would also take screen grabs/copies of the rules to prove the discrepancy.

Basically try to cover all bases so they don't have any reason to question your application.

I've taken screen shots of both. Deadline isn't until Monday week but am doing now as next week so manic. I'm sure (surely?) that they will have to abide by what it says online (6 months), which is also mentioned in an email but if I can I will call to check. Really annoying.

You can submit additional documentation after the deadline as further supplementary evidence.  The important part is to get the application itself in on time. I did that when I was applying for my son's primary school.  So when you get the bill in November or thereabouts, you can upload it at that time.  I believe Helen Duxbury is the Head of Schools admissions and I think you should make her aware of the discrepancy so that they can rectify it going forward.

I had query this last year and called them, council tax bill is fine and so is water or even a letter from your energy provider as long as it shows address and date. Don't worry x

Well I suppose a recent utility bill or council tax number is more orthodox than a baptism or confirmation certificate.
