Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Here's a date for the diary. As you'll see, the Peace Walk is organised by Bruce Kent who lives in Harringay ward. He would be delighted to welcome local families on the day!

People are warmly invited to take part in the ‘Search for Peace Children’s Walk’, an event which highlights London’s statues, memorials, gardens and other places which have important connections to our peace heritage.

The annual event will take place this year on Sunday, September 19, and involves groups of families and friends wlaking a four mile route which takes in London’s important peace landmarks.

It is most suitable for children aged 5-15 and their families and is designed to be fun as well as informative.

The trail starts at the Friends House, opposite Euston Station, where children register for the walk and receive a puzzle book and a passport (please bring along a small photo to put in the book). Children use the book to solve clues at sites along the trail and their passport is stamped by stewards along the way.

Key sites on the trail include Ghandi’s statue in Tavistock Square, the peace tree in Covent Graden and memorial to Edith Cavell near Trafalgar Square. The Peace Walk ends at the Imperial War Museum where children can take part in special activities and will receive a lucky bag of souvenirs plus have refreshments. Groups are welcome to walk the full route but buses are also allowed if little legs get tired!

The Peace Walk is organised by the Movement for the Abolition of War. Peace activist and walk organiser Bruce Kent says: “This is great way for children to learn about the importance of peace and highlights the contribution to London of peace activists over the years. Families enjoy a day out together and often see parts of London that are new to them.”

The event is free and children must be with a reponsible adult. Registration beforehand isn’t esential but is helpful to let the organisers gauge numbers. Registration can be made by calling 01908 511948 or emailing via the website at www.abolishwar.org.uk

Registration on the day takes place between 11 am and 12 noon at Friends House, 173 Euston Road. Eevnts at the Imperial War Museum take place from 3-4pm.
