Surely this will open the floodgates? Or rather close them.

I mean, why just for 45 minutes, why not all day? All schools and most parents will now want this, and I'm sure even the daftest car worshipper will find it hard to argue against, although I'm sure someone will try, citing realpolitik.
For the record I don't drive, and am neither daft nor a car worshipper. And if considering the practical implications of a decision is realpolitik, so be it.
I think short term closures are a great idea. But making them permanent will just push traffic into the surrounding roads — which could well make them more dangerous for children walking to and from school.
Given the tiny catchment areas of so many Haringey schools there is no excuse for driving kids to school. This seems a sensible step.
Another would be to enforce parking rules in the residential areas around schools. If more school-run parents were ticketed for obstructive and illegal parking they might see the benefits of walking instead of driving.
