As you may be aware there was an impromptu tree climbing protest on March 19th to prevent the felling of a large sycamore tree at the Blythwood road entrance to Parkland walk. This coincided with David Theakston, Haringey's Parks Development Officer being present. He stayed and spoke to a number of concerned residents on the ground.
Today he has expressed his willingness to work with us on a strategy to complete the current works and save as many trees as possible. A meeting has been set up for Monday the 22nd of March.
This is encouraging news and that Haringey are in dialogue with concerned residents must be reflected in our messaging . However, this meeting will not address wider concerns regarding Haringey Council's tree management plans. And we are losing trees across the borough not just here on the Parkland Walk.
As you may have heard there is a current dispute in Coldfall woods where trees are due to be felled because of a home insurance claim.
Haringey's Tree department is tragically underfunded and as a result the policies on biodiversity are not being translated into practice.
Sunday, the 21st of March is World Forest Day, and The Funeral For Our Trees will go ahead as planned to mourn the loss of trees along Parkland Walk and throughout the borough. Our message to Haringey Council will shift away from criticism over these particular works and focus on their need to continue working with local residents and ensure that in the midst of this climate we are working together to save our green spaces.

I was on the other part of the Parkland Walk starting from Muswell Hill today and a lot of big trees have been felled. The bare ground looks horrible and those trees would have been absorbing pollution from the busy road - can't understand why they have been felled.
Yes it is absolutely horrendous! 150 year old oaks have been cut down without a thought!
Absolutely irreplaceable! and in the middle of nesting season, and a climate emergency!
hopefully they will put a stop to this and think twice before acting so irresponsibly again in the future.
Trees cost money to maintain.
