Just for those who might not have realised... the food collection often comes round a couple of hours later than the green bin recycling collection. On the same day, that is. The food collection is a different lorry.
It does seem as though there are two different Veolias operating as in my road we have never had any problems with the collections. Occasionally they are a bit late, or change the day, but they always come and take away the rubbish. Strange.
Its supposed to be the same multi-purpose lorry! The recycling vehicle can take both dry and garden/food waste - that's why it has two compartments. That's what we paid for when Veolia got the contract. If that's not happening then hammer Veolia and your local councillors.
Glad that rubbish was collected in Mattison yesterday but FURIOUS that absolutely no effort had been made to put our bins even approximately back in place. Leaves an open invitation to people wondering if anybody home.
Amazing, they came and collected the refuse this morning. A day late. I wonder what the excuse is? What's the point in having a rubbish collection schedule if they just ignore it?
And they frequently leave the food bin, as well as randomly chucking the bins back in the front garden. At least they've stopped leaving them on the street, I guess that's something.
There are 3 different lorries, one for recycling, one for food and one for general waste. How green. ARGH! I despise this company.
Perhaps the next Dear Maximum Supreme Council "Leader-for-four-years" will appoint a "cabinet" member for rubbish, waste & recycling; and tell 'em to get out there and not come back till they've sorted this out.
Or maybe s/he will simply appoint a Commission and spin whatever garbage they come up with.
A 'Waste Champion' maybe?
Yes, I have had problems with this company. I had not realised that I should not put black bin liners in my 'recycle' bin and so they did not empty this bin. There was no note left or contact from the company informing me of my 'error'. It was only when I telephoned to enquire as to when I might expect my bin to be emptied that they informed me I had 'contaminated' my bin but that they would get my bin emptied the next day, and the next day, and the next day etc. This went on for nearly a week. I made many telephone calls and on my usual collection day they finally turned up. I suggested to them in one of my many phone calls that it might be a good idea to let a householder know when they have made an error, perhaps a note explaining why no collection. Ah yes, the snow was another reason why we were nearly a week without a collection. Perhaps we should demand our money back for the days/weeks that are missed!
I was supposed to do a walk-about last week with Veolia, my local councillor and a council officer. Of course no one from Veolia was there. Instead the council guy had a list supplied by Veolia of all the properties in my road where they perceived a problem. OK, some of them were real problems like below ground level dustbin areas (built by the council when they renovated this street) and it was decided that these properties would benefit from sack/bag collection instead. For others, Veolia were complaining about the steps up out from the yards and back down to the pavement. We're talking a step of about 4-5 inches here. These are just a couple of the issues here.
Also looked at was the abundance of bins in a single front yard as the majority of the houses along here a HMO's. This created a problem of access to the bins themselves. The green bin guys wouldn't move the black bin to get to the green bin behind it and visa versa and the householders themselves had problems reaching their bins.
Now, I see the collection (or non collection) of food waste mentioned on here a lot. Did you know that they won't pick pick up those larger green food waste bins? This is because they can get too heavy. Nice of them to let us know, eh? You're supposed to use the smaller, kitchen bin instead, at least I think so. Similar for the green waste bags. Anybody notice that they've got smaller? Again it's a weight issue.
Now, little bins and sacks on the ground, what's the betting that the next excuse is that they won't bend down to pick them up?!
Oh, and we too had a staggered collection this week. The general rubbish collection was done on a pick and choose basis. One cart, one driver, two men. One man was armed with a list and pointed out to the other which bins to empty. He obviously had a different list to the one I'd seen earlier as mine were missed this time. But they did come around the next day and empty all the general rubbish bins. Shame that they didn't put them back where they'd got them from though.
At least. Madeline, one of your councillors and a Haringey officer did come, walked round, saw and listened. That seems to be a sensible starting point for tackling the problems in a street.
It would be interesting to know the name of your councillor and ask them to post their view on HoL.
Could I please also ask you - and through you any neighbours you're in touch with - to pass comments and suggestions to Cllr Stuart McNamara who is chairing a Scrutiny Panel looking at this issue.
