Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all,

Is it just me or has the rubbish/litter/flytipping situation become a lot worse on the Ladder roads in recent months. We live on Warham Road and recently more and  more litter has been dumped on the sidewalk (from beanbag to mattresses, plastic bags full of household waste etc etc). When walking around it is hard not to come across milk cartons, plastic bags and cans rolling around on the roads.

I have been reporting those on the Haringey council website and have been shocked to see the amount of reports/complaints on their website/area map.

One problem seems to be that some multi-occupancy houses do not have enough bins to cope with the waste. How can we alert the council? What other measures can be taken besides alerting council?

We are all paying a very decent amount in council tax and we should be able to get decently cleaned roads and sidewalks for that.

This sounds very encouraging. Hopefully see you there....

I’ve lived within a few miles of here all my adult life and sadly it has been like this for too long. It’s gettkng worse and it’s never going to get any better. I’ve decided to move to Hertfordshire where I can get a bigger, cheaper and nicer flat and still break even on the extra travel costs, have a similar length and more pleasant commute to the office and not live in a slum where I’m embarrassed to have people round. Having said that on Sunday night I was so fed up with the rubbish on the street outside that instead of coming on here and moaning I got my long handled broom and dustpan out and I did the unthinkable and swept up the crap outside my house and next door and put it in the bin. I shouldn’t have to do it, but it was either that or leave it there for the streetswerpers that don’t exist any more to never pick it up.  For as long as it takes me to move out of this hole I envisage I will be out there every Sunday evening doing the same, perhaps even a couple of times during the week. We all make our choices where to live. There are far nicer places than Harringay that are affordable, nicer and within reach. It’s soul destroying living here and I’m glad to say I’m getting out.
