A brick tumbled out of our chimney stack one Sunday morning, alerting us to the fact that the whole thing was on the verge of collapse. We found Lee/LA Roofing through Harringay Online (his number: 07973 738590) and we were really pleased with what he did for us.
After we texted him, he came round for a visit very quickly, diagnosed the problem and arranged to have scaffolding put up within a matter of hours so he could get started on the job the following day. Once he was up there, he showed us exactly what needed doing (with the help of photos from his phone), and ensured that by the time he came down, the roof was ready to be left alone for a few more decades (NB: worth getting multiple jobs done at the same time - scaffolding isn't cheap).
Lee never seemed to be giving it the hard sell, and was up front about what things would cost. He also enjoyed explaining how roofs worked and what happened when they didn't work properly (our new favourite new word: "flaunching").
This was also good: his van has a livery on, and he puts his banner up on the scaffolding when he is working, so I guess that means he is proud of what he does, and easy to identify: reassuring if you are concerned about knowing who you are letting on to your roof.
Hi, I wonder if you can help me.
I am in need of a roofer and have seen all of the many, universally positive reviews of Lee on this site, so was planning to contact him. However, I am finding quite odd that there appears to be no trace of him whatsoever on the internet, except on this very website! It's impossible to find any other mention of a London-based roofer named Lee Murphy and the company "LA Roofing" does not appear to be a registered company or have any website, public profile, etc. Which all strikes me as quite odd. Is it really possible for a tradesman to have no internet presence at all?
Can you shed any light at all? Thanks!
He has a business card - think he's probably too busy to spend money on his own website?!
I used Lee once, he did attend promptly (replacing one bit of guttering), but he was rather expensive and it did take a few calls to get him back to rectify something.
Thank you. Also, thanks Kate.
I understand not spending money on a website, but having no mention or trace at all anywhere except here?
Also if there is no company, no address, just a mobile number, very difficult to hold to account if something does need rectified.. and what chance that he is insured, etc?
Maybe I'm worrying unduly!
he's probably fine for small jobs, but anything over £1,500 personally i would use a company that can demonstrate some kind of proper warranty/insurance
then again, the roofing world is rife with con-men and rip-off merchants, even the larger companies
just don't get anyone from facebook, or anyone that calls at your door offering to "fix your roof, as we are in the area and we notice you have some missing tiles etc"
