Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just wanted HoLrs to know about the Rocking Chair Cafe 16 Park Road, N8 (just near the Oxfam Bookshop).

This is an organic Central European cafe. There were lots of mum and babies there when I arrived. They have a play area for toddlers towards the back of the cafe. As I was on my own at the time, I was pleased with the welcome and warmth of the staff.

They offer any hot drink and a danish for £2.65 upto midday. I had a flat white and a piece of strudel (they'd sold out of Danish) I was impressed with their flexibility on the pastry front rather than deny me the offer. The cafe also does quite a range of food (all made on premises) for lunch.

Definitely going there again.

Oh no the secret is out! This cafe is great for those with small kids (and homesick Aussies who want a decent flat white!). It's definitely worth the trek over to crouch end.

Picture here.

We tried it for lunch a couple of weeks ago and I have to say I wouldn't recommend them. We had a veggie dish which was really bland and consisted of loads of potatoes and a couple of veg, despite being called something along the lines of 'Mediterranean roast vegetable salad with i-cant-remember-what'. It was followed by the worst cake I've had in Crouch End - really hard, dry and incredibly dense. I think whoever made that cake did some very basic mistakes, seriously overworking the batter, perhaps? I do a fair bit of baking and I would never serve a slice like that to an unexpected visitor, let alone a paying customer.

Not in a hurry to come back, there are lots of nicer places in the area.
