Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We've been trying to renew our parking permit online this evening, and keep getting the message 'try again in a few minutes'. As our permit expires at midnight, we kind of need to get it done... When we realised that one printed one's own permit, we didn't think there was any rush...

Has anyone managed to renew their permit this way? Has anyone else had problems? And am I right in thinking it's no longer possible to go and get one in person anymore?

Hi Paul. Thanks for the popup advice - it might be that. We gave up, in the end, and put a visitor's permit in for this morning.

I know what you mean about that building, though I've always renewed our permit that way, as their postal renewal timelines were always rather open ended and I preferred to spend an hour standing there, rather than risk not getting my permit back in time.

The current system also seems a bit rubbish, if our experience is at all typical.
We've had no luck as yet. My husband tried again today at work and got a little further along in the process, but it wouldn't accept his payment this time. And there's no info on the page or on the letter they sent out about how to contact them if you have a problem - no phone number. We've emailed, but I don't expect to hear for days. We'll run out of visitor permits quite soon. It's driving me a bit mental.
Call Garry Weston via the switchboard on 020 8489 0000.

He's pretty helpful, and turned ours around in under a day!

The site is total rubbish, and as it is from Civica, I'm willing to bet that it cost a fortune!

Sorry, but I renewed my permit online and printed it with no trouble. It looks like you can still go to the office to renew your permit: http://www.haringey.gov.uk/index/environment_and_transport/parking/...

I never liked the queues in the office, but the people were always nice.

So, it turns out the website was skipping part of the payment process - the bit where your bank authenticates the payment (I think it's something like the 'Verified by Visa' boxes you sometimes get - though it might be completely different, because we never got a look at it) and therefore refusing my husband's payment. Anyway, in the end we contacted Garry Weston (with many thanks to Joe Bailey) who was indeed very helpful. Our permit will go in the post today and he's notified parking attendants not to ticket us until Tuesday, which will save us our visitor's permits.

What a terribly ponderous process. Every aspect of it is fraught with difficulty, all exacerbated by Haringey's extremely poor website.

All over and done with for another year.

So, another year, another parking permit. Exactly - and I mean exactly - the same problem with the website. The parking people eventually agreed to post us a permit, but have offered no insight into why it doesn't work for us. Luckily, as our old permit expires tonight, I'll be out all day tomorrow and Friday with the car.

I can't quite believe they haven't fixed it yet.

I've only ever gone in person to Station Road to buy permits - admittedly I only get visitors permits every couple of years - but I've never waited there more than a couple of minutes and the whole thing has been absolutely painless.  The parking permit queue operates separately from queues for the other services and perhaps I've just been lucky.  In fact when I went there a couple of weeks ago the girl serving me was the same one as last time I was there in 2012, when a typo she made on one longer term visitor's permit brought my visitor 2 parking fines and no end of grief to get them cancelled.  She was mortified and perhaps as a gesture of goodwill she sorted out a council tax issue for me which saved me hours of queuing.

Has anyone been recently to buy a CPZ permit?

We've got a new car and I'm waiting for the DVLA to send back the ownership document, once I have this I'll need to go in person to get the permit so just wondering how long I need to give myself and if I'm going to be queuing for hours?
