it happened in the afternoon, between 3pm and 4pm, or when the house was emptied that day.

They came back next day to my neighbour, they asked him a random question as well.
Sorry to hear about this. I presume you've reported to the police.

My tip is to anyone is to install a London bar on your door frame. This is a strip of metal that strengthens the door frame as a lock is only as good as the bit of wood in the door frame that it 'braces' against.

Years back someone tried to kick my door in but the London bar held and though the door was broken it didn't break the lock so they couldn't get in. You need to have a mortice lock too but I assume everyone uses one.

A London bar only cost about £25 (any decent locksmiths should have one or even DIY stores) and are surprisingly easy to install. Or you can get advice from the Police crime prevention team who will do a security check on your home and give you tips n how to make it more secure.
We had a visit from a very similar pair last saturday. It was a white van with 2 men of exactly the same description and the young guy came up and rang furiously on the doorbell in the middle of the day. We didnt answer, my boyfriend just went to the front window as it was already open. He asked us a random question then ran off back to the van. The older guy in the van was staring for ages, but we made eye contact which may put them off. I guess they were hoping we would answer the door so they could check out our locks etc. Due to the fact that my boyfriend happened to read this post the day before, we took down the number plate. I am sorry to hear your story.
Fran, Very well done for taking the vehicle registration number !
Hi Fran,

The officer dealing with our case has asked if you could provide us with the reg number and a contact number for you so she can ask you a few questions. You can send me an email with the info rather than on here. If you'd rather not give your number i can give you the number of the burglary team and the crime ref number (which you can say this could be linked too) but she has asked that we call back with the reg number.

Hope thats ok- not sure what will get done but every bit helps!

A
How come you're being so shy about putting the registration number on here?
Appreciated if you could contact me at adamparvez@gmail.com
If they knocked on your door once is likely they have been watching you so registration plate needs to be reported tl
Police.
