Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

Have house on ladder - unfortunately a detached one so lots of external brickwork. Need to repoint as much of it as can afford to, partic. south facing walls.

Have read just enough to convince me of argument for Lime pointing not cement.

Has anyone looked into this? Can you recommend tradesperson or comapny? Lime mortar can sometimes be regarded as more 'specialist' than cement mortar re-pointing so I'm concerned about getting good price and someone who agrees it is better not to use cement.

Thanks if anyone can help with this x

we used these guys, and they were very nice:

http://www.beckwithtuckpointing.com/

we have another contact who put us in touch with them, who also does lime pointing, so PM me if you like.

We found that several of our bricks had blown where they'd been partially repointed with hard cement in the past. Where the original lime mortar remained, they were actually in better condition. The people working with lime didn't give the cheapest quotes, but most convinced us that they really knew what they were doing.

Hi AxP
Did you get your pointing done in the end? I'd be interested to know of your experience.... I left messages with BeckwithTuck and another company a little while back, both work with lime, neither got back to me! I have a quote from a third company but a comparison would be useful.
Thanks.
