I know we all moan about Veolia and Haringey's abhorrent new policy on garden waste collection (I have a theory about that, by the way: I think councils, particularly dodgy ones like Haringey, are licking their chops at the prospect of no longer being subject to EU pressures with regard to the environment and are jumping the gun, knowing that the government isn't going to come down on them). I have noticed that recycling (both food and main green bin) collection even in central Crouch End is becoming more erratic recently.
However. I reported via the haringey.gov website at 11am that my food bin had not been collected. Got the automated reply at 11.05am. At 11.27 the food bin lorry came by and emptied my bin. And no, they weren't doing the whole street - I could see that the houses around me hadn't been touched.
So, sometimes they have a communications system that works.

There has apparently been an issue with food waste collection in particular I reported mine not being collected a couple of times earlier in the year and ever since an inspector has followed the lorry to check my bin was collected. I was told about the "issue" and accompanying investigation by one of the call centre staff.
This may explain the super-sensitiviy in your case and the super-fast reaction time to your complaint.
