Queues for parking permits - DISGRACE!
I got the shock of my life the other day when I saw the size of the queue to get a parking permit from the wood green council "shop". I've never seen anything like it except perhaps at US immigration the last time I flew to NYC.
If any cllrs are reading this - get this sorted!!! Its not hard to do what hackney do and issue people numbered tickets for each service queue and see them quickly. If ever there could be a more visible symbol of an incompetent council then this has to be it. Treating your residents like cattle is totally unacceptable.
If anyone would be able to sell me a parking voucher in and around harringay gdns for my builder pls get in touch. I'm really toiling because I've not yet had a council tax bill to enable me to get a permit - just moved in recently.

Welcome to Haringey , I am afraid you need to get used to this sort of thing .The council has been run on a wing of a prayer for years.
When it involves a motor vehicle you just a cash cow.

The Russian ticket system? Fascinating. When Bulgaria was still under communism, my partner Zena and I were told it was impossible to get coffee and cake together. Plus there were two separate queues and a ticket system for each. We didn't believe it until we went there on holiday.
Zena said that the Nursery Voucher system under John Major's government had obviously been designed by a civil servant just back from a trip there.

I moved from Hackney to Haringey a year ago and must say I had exactly the opposite experience to the one you describe. Getting a parking permit in Hackney was always a soul-destroying, Kafka-esque nightmare whilst in comparison I've found Haringey a model of politeness, professionalism and efficiency. That said it's coming up to renewal time so I may be counting my chickens... Hope not.

You can now renew parking permits up at Stroud Green library, but I don't know if you can apply for first time ones there.

Closing 4 out of 6 customer service centres as part of the cuts probably hasn't helped the situation...
My recommendation is to arrive at 8:15, wait 15 minutes for them to open and your likely to be one of the first 5 or 10 people seen.
Any later and it's a nightmare...

I'd say, Patrick, that the system needs to work properly. Not depend on hints, tips and workarounds. However helpful and well meant.
"The Cuts" is a perfectly reasonable explanation for lots of Council services running at a lower level or being withdrawn altogether. (The polite Obfuscandian term for the Government's surgery is "facing challenges".)
But it's completely irrelevant for the Parking Service. The Parking Account was making a very healthy surplus. I've heard nothing to suggest this has taken a dive. Some of this can be spent on an efficient system for selling our customers their parking permits. It may not even need extra dosh. A Systems Approach used with intelligence and imagination often does the trick.

Neil, are you aware that you get get visitor vouchers online now? You have to register. More details via the Parking Permits button on our One Button Council Contact page - see brightly coloured link in right hand column.

Sure. You can go direct to the council's page here. The reason I always suggest going via permenant links on HoL is so that folks stand a better chance of finding things for themselves another time they might need it. So, for the record, you can go the to the One Button Council page via the buttons link in the right hand column. Look at the picture below, then look at right hand column. I promise you, there's no missing the parking permit link once you're there.

You don't necessarily need a Council Tax demand. What they are looking for is proof that you are a resident so copy of mortgage / tenancy agreement plus something recent from bank, Electricity or gas suppliers would do. I found them pretty flexible in that regard.

First, let me check. I understood that you are looking for visitor vouchers for a builder; is that correct? If so, the web page linked to says the following:
2. First time voucher applicants:
Download and fill in a visitor voucher application form (PDF, 54KB) and send it wth proof of address and payment to London Borough of Haringey, PO Box 55235, London N22 9DF.
It looks like is doable without physically attending the parking centre, if you have the time. If you're a first time registrant in a hurry, however, it looks like you'll have to go back.
As an interim measure, try adding a new post with a title which clearly aks to borrow/buy some vouchers from your neighbours. Previous similar posts seem to have had a very high success rate.
