Hi - we've been carers for guide dogs for a while now and have decided we would like one that is 100% ours. Any recommendations for dog breeders locally? We're looking for a small to medium pup but aren't fussy about the breed.
Before it is recommended, we've tried to rehome a dog but have been told it is very unlikely as the Harringay Ladder is too urban for most rescue dogs.
Thanks!

Not sure why you were told that I rehomed my dog and live on the main road by Turnpike Lane... Hearing this makes me very sad. Being a guide dog carer surely proves its a fine place for a pup to grow up.
Disclaimer - I work at Dogs Trust but still had to go through the same checks as as everyone else.
We are currently rehoming on a very limited socially distance basis so it may be that there are no dogs suitable right now rather than your actual location.
Anyway best place to find a reputable breeder and make sure you are not being scammed is to look here
Just a note from April 6th 2020 a new law came into place so please do make sure your breeder is licensed.

That is great news about the new Anti-puppy farming legislation, Jacqui, thanks for sharing that. I hadn't heard about it until you flagged it. If more people are aware of it, they are more likely to report unlicensed (and therefore acting illegally) breeders.
Not sure why you have been told that you can't rehome on the ladder. We have loads of parks around here.
We have a rescue dog but she's from overseas as UK rescues won't rehome dogs to with families with children under 13.
The charity we got our dog from is very reputable so PM if you would like details.
I wonder if the pet shops in crouch end and Muswell hill might help - if they are open
they are not that kind of pet shop - they sell food and equipment
Think it's so sad you've been turned away for where you live when so many animals need rehoming! Unsustainable too given how urban this country is (and increasingly so). We were told by every rescue centre in London that we would never be allowed a puppy because we didn't currently have a dog, this despite me working from home full time and having owned dogs all my life. We were heartbroken, we've had lots of rescue animals (including dogs) but sometimes it is better to have one from young, so we'll be looking at breeders next time too.
By the way there are many rehoming charities from overseas that would be delighted to have you apply. We got our dog from Barking Mad Dog Rescue which rehomes dogs from Romania and they have loads of puppies. The main criteria is that you are dog-savvy and have an enclosed garden that the dog can't slip out or jump out of.
