Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Evening all,

My girlfriend and I are moving to the ladder next week after 3 years in west London. It wasn't really somewhere that we had considered, however we seen a flat much cheaper than our current one and around the same size, so a no brainier really.

What I really wanted some info on was decent pubs and restaurants in the area. I know that Finsbury park, Stroud green, crouch end etc have a mixture of good pubs but I am unsure about harringey/ green lanes. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

It's a no brainer, but Gokyuzu is the best Turkish restaurant in London...

Hhhm - it's the highest rated on Trip Advisor.  Went once or twice, but there are better reataurants on GL that aren't on Trip advisor IMO,

Dotori (opposite Rowan's Bowling) at Finsbury Park has fantastic food and great prices. Just order a set menu. Love Gokyuzu too. As for pubs, The Salisbury is your best bet.
Ohhh and The Fullback is fab, especially in the summer.

Welcome to Harringay - I am confident you will love it here.

Some of the places we love are Salisbury pub, Moka Cafe and La Vina Tapas on Wightman Road, Jashan Indian on Turnpike Lane, Gokyuzu, Banners in Crouch End which is easily walkable and has loads of good cafes and restaurants.  A bit further afield is the Clissold Gastro pub on Fortis Green Road.

Don't forget Cafe Moka on Wightman Road and fresh bread from Yasar Halim.

Join the library and look out for Music on The Ladder.  And the events page on here will give you plenty to do.

We love the food and drink options on Green Lanes. For pubs I agree the Sailsbury is great but we also visit the Garden Ladder if we fancy a change. If you fancy a change the Brownswood Park Tavern is a longish but doable walk towards Stoke Newington or the Faltering Fallback is a similar length walk through Finsbury Park.

For food we are somewhat spoilt. We have a glut of amazing Turkish restaurants - everyone seems to have a favourite (mine being Hala) but they are great for a late take out dinner or equally a meal out with friends (or girlfriend!), we are also a fan of La Vina Tapas restaurant on Wightman Road which has a nice atmostphore great week day offers and good food I had my 30th birthday there and the service couldn't have been better. For Indian Jaishan on Turnkpike road is one of the best Indian's I've visited in London their Samosa's are just the best. On a Sunday we walk down to Harringay market where (which is moving to Harringay South School from next week) where there is always a temping choice of things to eat and cakes to take home (plus organic produce). Not strictly a restaurant but Yeser Helim (excuse my spelling) will make you fat on pastries and you will become a connoisseur  of Baklava - still after 6 years of living here I enter like a kid in a sweet shop. Finally, for a Sunday Breakfast you can't go wrong with Lemon Cafe which does great breakfasts I'm sure the rest of their menu is equally great I've just not waivered from the breakfast items!

I hope you have a good move and enjoy living here as much as I do.

Muna's - But it's shut down unfortunately

Thats a shame!… been a while since I have been down there.

The Finsbury Pub (in Green Lanes between Manor House and Harringay Green Lanes) is good if you want  a hipster-ish crowd. Live music, stand up comedy etc nights. It feels very Dalston.....

Seconding the mention of The Finsbury. The live music nights are pretty good, it's a nice crowd and not so busy that you spend half an hour waiting at the bar. The Salisbury is also quite nice but much quieter and the vibe is very different, though it all depends what you're into!

I much prefer this side of London to the South West, which is where I was living before. It's much more characterful and there seems to be more of a community vibe, plus it just feels much more diverse. I hope you enjoy being here as much as my partner and I do :)
