Protest about lap-dancing licence for Crouch End venue

Ironically it's probably the gentlemen of Crouch End that keep Spearmint Rhino and such venues afloat? No one wants these places in their backyards, but they are a far cry from the seedy Working Men’s Clubs of the seventies and Eighties. The planned, drug/drink/rape problem never materialised in my hometown when "Lace" (classy!) opened. Like anything in life this, if it's moderated properly it is far better than illegal knocking shops & sex shows. What are they grounds for protesting, moral, religious, because it’s Crouch End?

I once protested against a topless bar opening in a residents area, only to be let down by all the females attending who went to watch a nude male show at the theatre. Pot, kettle, black!

Isn't there something similar and more seedy looking the other side of the old Manor House Pub?

B2 - did that shop get planning permission in the end? I remember actually writing a letter to object to that. (three in fact - i wrote some for my neighbours to sign too!). I never really got a response from hackney council though.

To be honest, if i havnt even realised it opened all these years later, perhaps i had nothing to complain about in the first place!

I only noticed it as I was sitting on the top deck of the 141 heading northwards, this was about six months ago, dunno if it's still there. Mind you, you could put an old ladies tea rooms there, it would look shady!

Why do they not have a high street full of gambling shops?

Can I just put my hand up now and say that if we live in an environment where men will pay young ladies a tenner for a 2 minute strip tease we're in rich company.

Why does anyone care? Is anyone really bothered by the idea of men paying women to dance? Or is it that the women are nude? Or as the article has it, is the fact that it " is just a few minutes from an infants school."
Everywhere in London "is just a few minutes from an infants school" - it's the most pathetic excuse for an objection I can imagine.
If someone can make some money out of it and no-one gets hurt, then let them dance.

If that is the argument then what is the objection to gambling joints, as no-one gets hurt there either? I assume you could get strip addiction in the same way as you get gambling addiction?

I don't have any objection to a bookies; I do care that there are too may of them concentrated in a small area on Green Lanes.

I object to lap dancing clubs. They are demeaning to women and exploitative.

Having them in residential neighbourhoods surely will lead to children growing up thinking that things like that are okay.

But hey, I have rather old fashioned values when it comes to this kind of thing. I generally object to the amount of sex that has now widely become acceptable in the media too, because I have seen the effect that it has on the behaviour of young kids these days. We're letting them grow up too fast because we allow things like lap dancing clubs seem like a newsagent on the local high street. Not good.
