Philip, I'd be glad to know the facts and copies of the evidence you've gathered. If consultants have been hired or continue to be employed, this should be entirely transparent and the Council should have no concern about justifying it publicly.

Last year, as soon as the magnitude of Government cuts on Haringey became apparent, I and other councillors angrily raised the general issue of consultants - how much they are paid and whether they were actually needed.

Some were needed. Especially people with specialised skills needed for time-limited pieces of work. Councillors were told that some of them had fixed term contracts we were unable to break. Some were "interims" temporarily standing-in for staff made redundant as the overall size of the Council rapidly shrinks.

But do also please consider the posting above by Emina Ibrahim. Cllr Karen Alexander is a member of the Council's Scrutiny Committee. So it is perfectly reasonable, helpful and non-political - in accordance with HoL rules - for her to give a factual report on the outcome of its meeting on this contentious issue. I would like her to give us an equally factual and non-political report about what she has written to government ministers putting the case for Haringey to get properly funded as a borough with all the problems of Inner London but few of the advantages.
