Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Someone ignored my No Junk Mail sign to put these through my door this evening.

The book is so thick it nearly jammed up my mail slot - I could only remove it by pushing it back out the door...

Got that yesterday. They had just left it on the doorstep outside so haven't even looked at it.

Annoyingly, my recycling bin is already full.

Yes I got 2 (!) of these shoved through my letterbox which I wasn't happy about

Sarah, which organisation behind this? Can't read the writing in your attached image but the headings seem to be aiming for a peaceful message, don't you think?

It was unsolicited, and as an atheist Darwinist I found it quite offensive.

I can't make up my mind if you are taking the piss, or are serious.

Could you clarify pls ?

Well, to be honest I posted the picture before opening the book. I was annoyed that someone had ignored the no junk mail sticker, religiously with the heaviest piece of junk mail ever. But when I flicked through the book I found an entire chapter on how science is wrong, evolution is false and Darwinism is to blame for all of the worlds ills, including both communism AND capitalism. So yes, it was pretty offensive.

Ok thanks

Tapped that out on my phone, "religiously" was an autocorrect, not sure what word it was meant to be now!

I hope you enjoyed being offended. It's the price of living in a society where atheists and deists both get to speak.

They can speak wherever they like but they can't trespass on my property

POLICE!  HELP! I HAVE BEEN VICIOUSLY ASSAULTED ON MY OWN DOORSTEP - BY A BOOK!  A FAIRLY THICK BOOK, ARMED WITH DEADLY MISSILES - i.e. WORDS.

I SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAREFUL NOT TO APPROACH IT AS I'VE ALWAYS BEEN TAUGHT TO JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. THOSE REVOLTING WORDS, "ISLAM" AND "TERRORISM" LINKED BY THE EVEN MORE DANGEROUS VERB "DENOUNCES" SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUFFICIENT WARNING TO ME.

Yes, Adnan Oktar - aka Harun Yahya - seeks to sow, spread, propagate his own fairly benign interpretation of Islam and its Holy Book, the Qur'an - so I suppose Sarah is technically correct in labelling it "propaganda". He attempts to go farther in stressing the commonality of belief among the Peoples of the Book - Jews, Christians and Muslims. Clearly he believes that the pen is mightier than the sword, though he doesn't go as far in his eirenicism as 'the penis mightier than the sword', which is, I am sure, the solution to all quarrels or differences supposedly stemming from all these Divine Books. His quarrel, in the main, is with the violence of ignorant fundamentalism, bigotry and superstition on the part of those who may never have even opened the Qur'an.

Unfortunately this book - and apparently the whole library of books and online stuff he has produced - is obsessed with the sort of literalist, creationist guff we usually associate with American "Christian" anti-evolutionist fundamentalism.  Oktar/Yahya also seems very eccentric and naive in the belief that once he has explained that terrorism can have no connection with religion, nobody else need write another word on the matter, nor on the true meaning of Islam.

But I enjoyed ploughing my way through these 325 pages. I am no wiser about which organisation may finance this man's very obviously sincere obsessions, except that Arastirma Publishing is based in Istanbul and he was born in Ankara and educated there and in Istanbul. I look forward tomorrow morning to the next celestial volume or tablets of stone to be dropped on my doorstep by Jehovah, Allah or the other chap.
