Problems with reconnecting my Laptop after a Modem upgrade from Virgin

......had any problems reconnecting your laptop after a new modem installation from Virgin.      My Virgin  internet was running at snail-pace speed so Virgin sent out a technician to changed my modem to a super fast model which works OK, but I'm still not impressed I have a 10mb broadband download at £21pm.  However, the technician just couldn't connect my laptop back to my pc....  he tried everything and spent about 2hrs trying without sussess.     I am now waiting for his manager who apparently has more tech skills to come around and fix - any ideas out there?  :(

Technician said the service with Virgin along the ladder is pretty bad and Virgin are working there way up installing new installation tubes/cables etc.   Apparently virgin is at its worst right along the ladder.

Yes!  And be very afraid.

I had Virgin installed against my better judgement a few months ago.  Mostly because we lost all TV reception thanks to the new buildings on Woodberry Down.  Once installed the engineer found that my laptop would not connect to the modem, although it had been fine with the Orange one I had before.  The engineer said there was nothing he could do and I would have to go to get my laptop sorted myself.  So I told him to take the equipment away and I would not use Virgin.  He then called his boss (this is the stage you are at right...?).  Boss turned up and put a dongle into the laptop which worked.  He said there is an ongoing problem with Virgin not being compatible with laptops which they do not disclose at point of sale.  He also said I should try it out for a week or two and would be allowed to cancel within a month if I didn't like it.

A couple of weeks later the dongle stopped working and the Brazilesque nightmare began.  I have spend hours on the phone to Virgin while they try to "fix" it and refuse to cancel my account.  This included sending out a new dongle , aginst my wishes, and then charging me £30 for it.

So I still don't have wifi, Virgin have stolen 6 hours of my life in phone calls and I have to pay every month.  On the upside I can now watch telly and can confirm that unless you are keen on watching immigration officers arrest Nigerian kitchen porters or people being taught to discipline their children there is no point in turning the thing on.

If you get a solution do please let me know and good luck.

Not sure if it's a solution as yet, but it's looking like i'll have to download new wifi drivers to my laptop - might have a word with the guy at the computer repair shop in Crouch End.

I had Virgin broadband for a long time and was unimpressed, both with their charges and with their lack of customer care.  It seems that they are good on offers to attract new customers but once they've got you, that's it - crap service, and getting through to their customer services was very difficult.

So I terminated my contract and am now with BT, as they have some attractive offers for broadband/home phone etc.  I've got Total Broadband Option 3 and 24/7 calls, all for £35 a month including line rental for the phone.  Everything works fine - so far - the equipment arrived when it was meant to and was easy to plug in and install, and I'm now on wifi, something Virgin were only prepared to offer me for an extra fee.  My advice: dump Virgin ASAP and go elsewhere.  There are plenty of better options.
