Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey Council are promoting another community power supplier switching thing. (Can't think of better way to phrase it!)

I've read on HOL that last time this was tried, results were not impressive, for various reasons.

I've signed up for a quote and am happy to report back here on whether it is any good.

Given that many ladder houses and flats are very similar in size... I wondered how much variation there is in monthly usages and monthly costs for gas/electricity? I'm sure someone will know more about this than me. I live in a classic ladder flat. Eg, it's half of a ladder house. This flat must be the same size as hundreds and hundreds of other flats on the ladder - surely gas/electricity usage will be similar. Or, is that nonsense? I currently pay £84 a month (over 12 months) for standard variable gas/electricity. That seems like a lot to me. It went up hugely about a year ago.

EDF Dual Fuel - £ 878 over 12 months.

But - I live alone, mainly cook in the microwave and laundry goes out.

Interesting comparison with mine. I'm sure I can get mine down a bit. I'm EDF too.

Hi Laura

I have done research on domestic energy consumption and would say 30% difference is a good number for the potential difference in consumption based on behaviours. That is, one family living in exactly the same property as another could use 30% more or less just through the choices they make.

On the issue of whether you are paying too much. It depends how big your home is (1/2/3/ beds) and what your heating load is (i.e. uninsulated walls, occupants)

If you want to compare to regional/national prices this is a good link (See page 12 onwards) https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_dat...

£84 a month seems ok but it depends.

Energy prices show no sign of abatement. Business cases I have done for clients have shown inflation on energy well in excess of base rates (14% annual for some) - particularly for electricity. Investing in energy efficiency is one of the best financial decisions a household can make (as well as environmental) - imagine a savings account at 14% interest!

Hope this helps

Daniel

That's interesting. 30% is a big difference. Thanks for the information - very useful!
