We had a completely opposite experience. Neil started fixing our boiler and replaced just about every piece without being able to make it work. For about 5 days he kept promising he would come back to finish the job, but then the day after he wouldn't turn up or even call to say he couldn't make it. After about a week without hot water and Neil not responding we decided to call someone else. The whole thing ended up costing us £1000 between parts and labour. The problem was actually quite simple and would have cost us a fraction of the cost had it been spotted the first time round.
On top of everything Neil has also kept our house keys despite we asked him twice to return them. He is a very nice guy and I can see he has a lot of good reviews, but with us he has been very unreliable and caused us a lot of frustration (without taking into account what it cost us in the end).
I am afraid he left me in the lurch too. Despite numerous phone calls and texts he just vanished, with no explanation, having replaced a washer (at some expense!) and promising he would source some bathroom taps / shower - and leaving me with leaking taps ....
Seriously,
You'd think Neil Protheroe was the only plumber in the country!
we had a similar (bad) experience, to anton. I think maybe if Neil spent a bit more time focusing on plumbing and less time asking people to post positive reviews about him on this site, we'd all be better off.
I just had Neil around our place. He was great, and he was great when our boiler went out a week ago and our 'emergency plumber' never showed. He gave free advice over the phone which ended up fixing our issue (mostly being that my husband and I are useless with this stuff). We also identified that we have never had our boiler serviced so we arranged a time and date.
Expectation management was perfect. He was running late, but called and notified me. He showed me a broken bit in the boiler and then found a place that had a refurb. Again- giving me an option of what to choose (new vs old).
I trust Neil. I would call him again and I would recommend him.
