Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

published at HGY/2015/0034.

Keeps the facade at least of the old building, and adds two new blocks along Hermitage Road.

A total of 24 new tenure-blind homes all designed to Lifetime Homes standards in a new apartment building containing 19 dwellings on Hermitage Road and 5 terraced houses in a secluded mews to the rear of the site.

• A total of 8 new flats built within the converted St Ann’s police station, including a new modern extension. • 12.5% of accommodation will be affordable and 87.5% will be private.

Open for comments for 3 weeks at least.

Anyone know what tenure-blind means?  Does the 1 in 8 figure refer to the flats in the old PS, or to the whole development?

I am all for a mix but what I cannot understand is people not being willing to walk 5mins to a shop. As far St Anne's being a "dead zone" - what utter nonsense. I regularly walk down this road on my way to and from Green Lanes and whilst collecting my son from Chestnuts Primary. I usually bump into someone I know whilst doing so and there are always plenty of people around, coming and going from the hospital or park.
This area is extremely well served for retail and what is need is more (affordable) housing and not pound shops or convenience stores. Perhaps you'd like to see a Tescos or Sainsburys every 5 yards but I would prefer to use the extensive shopping options already available and easily accessible on foot or a very short hop on the bus. Somehow when my son was very small I managed to muddle through!

Nice to see a police station sold for a bit of affordable housing.

The police still have quite few more buildings to sell like the unused one behind Waitrose in Crouch End, not to mention at least more substantial buildings.   I am sure the Police do not need as many of these as they have in Haringey. It might even get them on the streets where they are needed.
