Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

...does anyone know what's being built there?  The excavators moved in this week and a shed and portaloo are now on site...

Whereabouts?  Do you mean the Brunswick Rd open space, or any of the strips that run alongside the railway lines?  I'll have a look tomorrow.   The equipment for the bridge works at South Tottnm station has spilled all over the open land where the two lines cross over, south of here.

It's the bit of land to the left of the seven sisters station symbol on the map above, on Birstall Road. It's got green hoarding up saying "HAPPY XMAS" on it. I noticed today they've attached a box to the fence for "community suggestions"...

I asked the builders and said it was going to be studio flats.

No thought for what could happen re Crossrail then?  That station could end up twice the size.

There was planning permission a couple of years back for some flats to be built there, I don't know if that still exists. It's well within the boundary for Crossrail 2 so that may have an effect too.

With any luck they're building a public toilet, seeing as that's what the pavement on that bit of Birstall Rd is used for anyway.

I'll put it in the suggestions box

I've found the plans for this site. Eight new dwellings on three floors - original application in 2005 has been date-extended twice. So now is the hour, just within the current three-year limit for starting. It's now 4 x 2-bed, 3 x 1-bed and 1 x studio units. House-like with gable fronts to match the neighbours.

HGY/2008/0659   now HGY/2011/0655  all revised from original plan HGY2005/2159 .

All of it is within about ten feet of the railway line so I hope they are cheap.

Thanks for the info! Glad they'll be in keeping with the rest of the road and hopefully they will be a deterrent to the serial p*ssers in the area!

If you're passing can you see if they have fixed the broken pavement, smashed up by the heavy lorry that was in there yesterday?  One of the builders came shooting out when he saw me taking pictures, assured me it would be fixed pronto. So is it?  Broken paving stones where they had failed to aim straight across the dropped kerb.

I saw it was broken on my way home from work yesterday evening, they had lots of red tape around it to stop anyone tripping over.  I didn't notice this afternoon though so maybe they've fixed it.
