Its got to be a wind up, Lesley !

Maybe you people should stop the ad hominems and discuss without slinging insults.

"Hate Crime" is a serious issue, don't trivialise it.

We are not talking about shouting at 'people in the street', we are talking about people trespassing on your property and messing with stuff that is legally still yours and your responsibility.

If you have stuff in your bins that can be used by others leave it in your front garden and mark it as surplus. Letting people rummage through your bin could leave them exposed to health risks. Encouraging them might make you culpable.

If your main concern is to show that you are a tolerant and caring human being, start by being nice on forums and discuss the matter, not the person.

Good for you ! I agree

Ring the non emergency police line they really seemed interested when i rang them about the same thing.

This has been debated a few times! It seems to be an ongoing thing on the ladder and no doubt across London.

Con has a point, but so do the rest of you. We must stop throwing out personal information. It's expensive and slightly time consuming but I know someone who has a really good shredder and a scanner. Everything is scanned and uploaded to Evernote before being shredded. You can print them out again if you need an "original". Slightly better than revealing your identity by yelling or using your riding crop.

Androulla, check the posts linked to via the tag I've added under your post.

thanks v much Hugh

I have just been looking at some of the other posts on this subject, of which there are many. For anyone who is concerned here are the descriptions of who I have seem today on the ladder. One of the people was a small middle aged mediteranean (gypsy) woman - fits the description  that others have given (other have said shes only after papers). She was methodically going through bins.  The other two people I saw were a middle aged tall thin white man with scruffy grey hair ( he seems to come by daily with his pushchair) and a youngish man with black hair, green eyes, about 5.10 medium build (i did poke my head round the curtain and politely tell him to get out of my bin). I don't think they were looking for food for survival.

If I am chucking anything that might be repairable or of any use to anyone (scrap metal, old curtains etc etc) I have no problem with people taking it and I leave it on the front wall, thereby say to people, ' please take'. Its a great way to recycle. I don't want people going through my bin.

I am getting a bit frightened of some of you HOLers but personally I don't beleive its poor people trying to live doing this. anyway, there you are, just thought it was worth mentioning it to people. thanks !

Hi androulla. From your descriptions it sounds like the man with the pram i saw in Crowland Road earlier today and the woman could be any number of the gypsies including one of the two i saw a couple of months ago also in Crowland Road.

I have found that shredding all old documents and other measures work for me.

Hi Ian - thanks for the  reply. I think i am also just going to tip off the police.  Some of these people may be known criminals/identity theives - so hope they will deal with it.

If someone is on your property, they are trespassing, end of. Regardless of how they need to live, that is not acceptable and you have every right to shout. If what they are doing is so innocent, I'm sure they would state their defense.

I did the same once to a guy who came in through my gate and threw up in my recycling box in the early hours - it's not a hate crime.
