Nothing showing for planning applications on this property since 1984 when it changed from a betting shop to a Malaysian restaurant.
I wonder why Malaysian restaurants have gone so much out of fashion? Just up the road on Hornsey High Street, Lams used to be a real favourite of mine. Real authentic Malaysian food. It's been closed for about 20 yeas now. But the exterior is still intact, taunting me every time I walk past. I think the owners live above.

Agreed. There's a Malaysian stall in the Junction Market on the corner of Seven Sisters Road and Hornsey Road - his food is OK but far far too bland - I can never understand why.
When I first moved to Crouch End in 2008 there was a wonderful, slightly crazy Malaysian lady who ran a takeaway on Tottenham Lane - in that shop with the now-restored beautiful frontage (at that time it was 2 shops) which has sunk to being a vape shop - between Elder Avenue and Rosebery Gardens. I would go in and ask her to make me something good - I never used the menu, and she'd make me something pretty much from scratch with fresh ingredients (I'll always remember her reaching into the fridge for a pineapple and lopping off chunks into whatever she was making) and it was always excellent. But she wasn't too young any more and was tired and soon she sold up to a couple who ran it as a more standard Chinese which didn't last. Very sad.

The go-to place for ex-pat Malaysians in North London now seems to be Roti King, just near Euston Station. It's a rather take-us-as-you-find-us type of a place set in the basement of a Sixties building. They do proper roti canai, to which I'm vey partial. Lunchtimes mean big queues, but the number of Malaysians in the queue should reassure.

Agreed. Roti King is fantastic, C+R is ok. I was once invited by a few Malaysian friends for lunch at the Malaysian embassy cafe. It's dead cheap, and only for Malaysians actually so I was lucky. The food is superb! The Malaysian lady who did a pop up at Blend has two cafes on Holloway Rd. No roti canai but laksa, various curry pastes in case you want to have a go at home and sambals plus delicious nasi lemak etc for takeaway. Definitely recommended.

I really liked her nasi lemak, but it's not traditional style and wasn't popular with the Malaysian side of my family. A great tip for a pretty local option.
Sambal Shiok - Google it: it has great reviews.
