Pavement obstructions / barriers

Not aware of how many blind and partial sighted their are in the borough

But with the growing number of Barriers going up it must be real dangerous for them

Notice several people having issues in wheels chairs, yesterday trying to get past barriers. With so many people rushing around. also the ones that divert people into the road

Also notice it is a issue for parents with push chairs, especially if they also have other children running around with them

Responsible contractors would have one of their operatives with a "Street Works" qualification before any work can begin. It's his or her job to make sure that all necessary signage and safety measures are in place. This includes passage for wheelchairs, prams, shopping trolleys and anything else a pedestrian is likely to have with them. Suitable barriers and other safety measures should also all be in place and there are strict rules and measurements that they have to adhere to. Inform, Create and Protect.

Works that involve some sort of obstruction should also have a contact number for complaints or observations. If not, the local council can be informed.

But I've seen many times that it seems that nobody has or is following the correct procedures regarding street works. I've spoken to a few, they've been hired by a sub-contractor just for the work. Health and safety, let alone common sense are not what they've been hired for.
