Well, you can get visitors permits online but it takes forever.

You have to register first (2-3 days) and then you can order them online and thet are sent by post.

So pretty useless unless you know at least two weeks in advance that you are having a visitor.

Quite a lot of festival tickets (so high value items) are now sent via email with a barcode that can be checked to ensure they are genuine. Seems like it should be possible for that to happen for parking permits.

I suppose the sensible thing to do would be to get a small stock of vouchers in advance and not to wait until they're required ? You're bound to need them sometime for visiting builders, electricians, etc.
