Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

 




To coincide with the start of the Paralympics, Haringey's celebration of local disability arts and sports is running this coming Sunday. 

PARAde Festival will offer activities inside and outside the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre. Inside the centre arts and sports organisations, who work with disabled people, will be offering tasters of activities and sessions. In the car park will be Showtime, part of the GLA’s Outdoor Arts Festival, with live performances from a variety of street acts.

Inside the Centre

1pm - 4.30pm: See performances, join workshops or get information from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation; British Wheelchair Basketball; Cirque Nova; CommunityID; Bruce Castle Museum; Jacksons Lane and lots more.  

5pm - 5.30pm: The Mayor of Haringey will be announcing the Council’s adoption of ‘Inclusive and Active 2 - A Sports and Physical Activity Strategy for Disabled People in London.’

5.30 - 6.30pm: Special Needs Swim. We are offering 1 free swim on the day for each person.  This activity is open to anyone with a disability (this also includes sensory impairments, learning disabilities and hidden conditions such as heart conditions or epilepsy).

12 to 7pm: Watch live performances from -    

  • Lyrix Organix presents Relay – Step into the Relay Sessions, a poet, a beatboxer, a freestyle rapper and an acoustic singer. Behind lies a backdrop of live street art. This is a relay like no other; an immersive and interactive street gig for audiences of all ages.
     
  • Bash Street Theatre presents The Strongman – Inspired by Charlie Chaplin’s 1928 film ‘The Circus’, THE STRONGMAN tells a story of intrigue and jealousy, with a big helping of comedy and musical ‘joie de vivre’.  With silent comedy, circus skills, live music and a little bit of magic, THE STRONGMAN is a brand new, street theatre show from the award-winning Bash Street Theatre Co.
     
  • Upswing presents Loved Up - A light hearted, fast paced fusion of aerial dance and hip hop centred around the pursuit of love.
     
  • Event International presents Red Poppy Ladies’ Percussion - Relive the spell-binding synchronization of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony with a performance by Red Poppy Ladies’ Percussion. Red Poppy are China’s most famous all female percussion group.
     
  • Mark Brew Company presents Nocturne - Working with a range of disabled and non-disabled artists his work entwines newly discovered movement, finding new ways to work with their bodies and reveals the unusual and the inspiring in the mundane to tell beautiful stories about being.
     
  • Sign Dance present New Gold and Half a Penny – a mix of physical theatre, sign, dance and comedy which challenges the audience and will be unlike anything you’ve seen before!
