Organised begging on GL

On my way to and from Sainsbury's today, a walk of two blocks, I have been asked for money three times by quite well dressed young women who initially seem to be wanting directions and then say they need money. It's different from the usual homelessness issues on GL and smacks of something organised. There is also an older woman who patrols up and down repeatedly asking for money, and yesterday I saw her hand over a bag of shopping to a very smartly dressed woman outside Tesco's, chat for a while, and then resume her begging.

Not always true, there is a woman who sits near the Halifax in Woodgreen she holds a sign, doesn’t say anything, just sits rubbing her stomach which looks like she is pregnant, but to keep that up an hour or so

later after passing her the first time, and then on other days, rubbing the same spot, I just don’t buy it! Plus whatever else might be wrong with this country we do look after those who are pregnant etc, as I know from my own experiences.

Remember many years ago, when Council Enforcement Officer. There was several Families operating in the Borough. But in them days they was not aware that the Council had CCTV which was often focused on them following complaints. In the end enough evidence was obtained to arrange a Court date. As expected they never turned up for Court and advised they move to another area

I understand the cameras still operate

Plus Police patrolling have body cameras

Also in my days, Police used to patrol with Dogs, which they did not like. Often moving off as soon as they saw Dog Patrols

Thankfully I do not need walk around the High Street.

But sure its worth taking up with Police Local Teams and Ward Councillors

Forced begging and busking
Traffickers will approach individuals including those who are homeless, either on the
street, or at places where they should feel safe such as food banks or shelters. Here
they are offered short term work for cash in hand payment. Potential victims can also
be recruited from other countries and often enter the UK with very few belongings
other than clothes or personal items. Some may also bring a begging mat. Whilst
begging, victims will be instructed to meet with their traffickers throughout the day to
hand over any money they have been given. This can be highly organised where an
exploiter may control a number of individuals, who are housed in the same cramped
living conditions. The same can be applied to forced busking on the streets, either as
an individual or in groups.
