Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Open House Festival is a London-wide festival that opens up and celebrates the city’s built environment. Every year, buildings and other sites across all 33 London boroughs open to the public, so that Londoners can explore them for free.

The 2026 festival will take place 12-20 September and will be the 35th edition.

It would be lovely to see the upper floors of the Lord Salisbury Hotel. I've heard about the 'ballroom' but have never seen it.

Many years ago, I wondered in when the first floor (which includes the ballroom)was being used as a Church. So I’ve been lucky enough to see it. the upper floors were all original bedrooms.

At around the same time as my visit, I came across an estate agent’s website which was marketing that first floor. I made this crude virtual tour out of those images (which are themselves long gone?)?.

The amount of light from the windows, the ornate door surrounds, the height of the ceilings, and the ceiling and lighting: such beauty.
Reminds me of Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi ie. You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…

Wonder if we’ll ever learn…

Worth checking out this reel giving the full picture to visitors to Harringay's Green Lanes this weekend
