Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The names of five neighbourhoods which will be built on the site of London's Olympic Park after the 2012 Games have been revealed.

The new suburbs will be called;

  • Chobham Manor,
  • East Wick,
  • Marshgate Wharf,
  • Sweetwater and
  • Pudding Mill

Suggestions for names included Plastic Fantastic, Dog and Bike, Little Athens and Redgravia but these were rejected by the panel.

Over the next 20 years, 8,000 new homes will be built, along with schools, nurseries and health centres.The neighbourhoods will also share a new green space called Queen Elizabeth Park.

The park will open in phases to the public from 2013, with families moving into the first new homes in 2015.

Is this how Ladder road names were invented back in 1887?  Anyone know what the suggested alternatives were which the Victorian panel rejected?

The only 'new invention' seems to be 'Sweetwater' -yuk!  The more local and historically relevant 'Channelsea' should have IMO been used instead.. Perhaps 'Sweetwater' is a sanitised version of that? :o)  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channelsea_Island

All the rest have been used on roads for years.. and no doubt have historical connections with the area..

With the 2 weeks sports party costing £9 billion, Londoners contributing for years via a council tax levy but few getting tickets, chosen names may have ended up as;

 No seriously

Pudding Mill is going to have to have a cake shop in it...
