If you leave it on the street with a sign saying 'please take', the Scrap Metal Fairies are likely to oblige.  They are heavy to move around though.

In some cases I've come across in the past , these "fairies" have stripped the bits they want and dumped or piled-up the rest.

Please chase Currys, Smileygirl.  If they don't keep their promise can you let your ward councillors know so they can get staff to follow this up.

Sure. But if buying a new washing machine from Currys' includes free removal of the old machine then shouldn't the company be held to their deal?  This is what they promise on their website:

"Why Us?

Unlike other retailers we'll take away your old product for free recycling, along with any packaging, when we deliver your new one. This applies to large kitchen appliances and TVs over 39". What’s more, if you’ve chosen to have your new product installed by Knowhow, we’ll disconnect it too.

You can also bring any unwanted electrical item into your nearest Currys PC World for free recycling, even if you haven’t bought it from us."

So if Curry's don't collect your old washing machine, and Veolia does, are Curry's saving money? And possibly freeloading on the Council' taxpayers?

Sure, but I'm assuming that SG's priority is to get rid of the machine rather than to fight the good fight.

Yes, i chose curries because they said they would deliver, install and collect the old one. All they did was deliver, say they couldn't install because they needed a tap or something (i had to call out another plumber, who said there was no problem at all), and they didn't even take away the old washing machine. Curries have promised to collect it for 3 different dates but as yet have not turned up. The council will pick up, but not from a second floor flat on green lanes.
