Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

We are just going through the admissions process for nursery places in Harringay for our (almost) three-year old. All three of the options (North, South and Woodlands) look good, but I was wondering what the general feelings on each of them are from Harringay parents?

The other thing to consider is which school they feed into. We are on Seymour Road, so by distance we're closest to South Harringay.

Any advice/help gratefully received!

It really does help to consider what school you are closest to and have best chance getting into as the friends formed at nursery (for both you and child) are for large part those that child will make transition to primary with. This consistency was immensely helpful for my daughter in her transition to school.
The parents you get to know are the same ones you can set up drop off and collection share with when/if working and child at school. Invaluable.
I think they are all similar in offering except not sure if South and North offer full day paid care - its half days only.
Woodlands has after school club for when they are in school and pick up from Chestnuts and South Haringey.

My 3 year old attends South Harringay and really enjoys it. There is a good amount of parent involvement; for example, a 'reading morning' every Friday, where parents are encouraged to stay for half an hour or so and read books together with their children. The staff are great too, particularly the center manager Debbie Defries.

My son got into nursery a year early (born September 2010), so will be going for another year from this September, and I haven't considered sending him elsewhere.

If you have any particular questions feel free to contact me.Nick

Nurseries aren't 'feeders' for schools. Your child getting a place at a schools nursery doesn't guarantee them a place in reception, it's entirely separate. Schools do their own nursery admissions, school admissions are done by the borough.

We're closer to South Harringay and it's our 1st choice for primary school, in fact he was offered a nursery place there. But we decided it didn't matter which nursery he went to because, even though it's closer that's not any guarantee that he'll get a place.

We choose Woodlands because it is a stand alone nursery so all the staff are early years specialists. They also have an amazing outside space. He's really happy there and we're really happy with our choice, the staff are all lovely too.

They're all really good nurseries, visit them all and go with what you feel...Everyone has different reasons and all children have different needs...good luck!

We sent our eldest (now 6) to Little Jewels, and he was very happy there. He was the only child from there who went to his school (Chestnuts), but he's had no problems making friends - even though a large number of children had come together from Woodlands.

Thanks to everyone who replied - extremely useful info. Seems like all three options are great - so not too much to worry about!
