Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As a life long Labour supporter I have decided not to vote Labour for the next local elections. I am not a St Ann's resident but as result of John's investigations I do feel that the local party is rotten to the core and not worthy of my vote.

I am wondering if any others are going to follow suit? and if so who will you be voting for. Me? I'm undecided.

They actually construct policy to cement their base and win more votes. For Labour it's all on Twitter, look for the supremely sunny hashtag #labourdoorstep. There are two steps yo your voting in this intensely competitive environment (local elections in the middle of Haringey) and the first step is answering the "who will you vote for" question. If we all told them that we won't vote for them because of X, Y and Z you can be sure they'd be back two weeks later with X, Y and Z addressed.

This is their game but we should play it, not just complain about the rules.

John I think Russell was saying we need to look at why people, mainly the underclass don't vote, generally because no party supports their needs at present.... and to date its true nothing major changes. Russell didn't vote as he said because he was brought up in a part of our society that feels and is left out and not considered, his way of coping was becoming a drug addict, apathy is clearly what happens in these situations and voting is futile, there is no energy for it. But as far as he said he doesn't vote he was saying that we need to find other systems that work and he is right, this system is not working, he did say that at present it would be best to vote non of the above and I agree with him, he was also talking about taking personal responsibility to effect change, he wasn't just saying don't bother voting kids, he was saying if the system doesn't work change it, don't vote in a system if it isn't working, change it!  In my last vote I tried to look at the specific candidates but unless you are really involved and know them through and through its impossible to have a clear knowledge about the truth in their party lines.... I voted for our local lib dem candidate who caused us real suffering and whom I feel sickened by now, and I voted for a green candidate but look at the results.  I think that if people really voted truthfully with a non of the above we would be pushed to think of new ways of creating a system that works for all not just for the few.

And I know I put myself on the firing line when I talk spiritual but I just can't help myself;) Russell also speaks of a need to come from the heart not the head, we need to really learn to care for each other... at present there is a lot of ego based thoughts and actions ruling our world... its out of balance.

Does voting for 'None of the above' class as voting or not voting? I can't figure it out.

Again, if there are ten people in a room and four of them vote while the other six shuffle their feet and whistle to themselves, whose fault do you think it is?

And as I've said, we have more opportunities to magnify our vote. In St Ann's thirteen people were able to bloc vote in all three of their preferred candidates. THIRTEEN!!!!!

Not just that but they doorstep and ask what it is you want done. They feed this back into policy makers, especially near election time. All parties do this.

But nothing is listened to other than what suits the party? Don;t understand what you mean about about the thirteen people bloc voting what is that?

Voting for none of the above is a vote for a change in system that is voting.

Public votes on particular important decisions would be good.... not just voting for a party (of which none have proved themselves in my eyes lately) Especially when it is about whether we should go to war or not.  Or whether the bankers should have such huge bonuses... Or whether we should grow GMO crops....

Sod voting.  Sod sitting on your arse, relying on others to do the work.

Care about your area and the world in general?
Then be part of it.  Check out these guys.

We all know that age old saying: "If you want something done, then do it yourself."
