Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As a life long Labour supporter I have decided not to vote Labour for the next local elections. I am not a St Ann's resident but as result of John's investigations I do feel that the local party is rotten to the core and not worthy of my vote.

I am wondering if any others are going to follow suit? and if so who will you be voting for. Me? I'm undecided.

St. Ann's resident here who will be considering other candidates this time, because of the selection situation.

There is a certain pharmacy on Green Lanes that I avoid now.

Me. Really really off-putting. No idea who I will vote for however.

Straw poll I did recently for 25 or so people; 'who would you vote for tomorrow in a nationwide election' (so not local), produced a majority saying they intended to 'spoil their ballot paper'. Lots of people pissed off with the  3 main parties. There was the odd Labour and even Tory vote, no Lib Dems.

I have heard of similar shenanigans going on in Waltham Forest, where a quiet, partially disabled councellor, but in his own way very thoughtful considerate guy.  Why has he been de-selected, his face does not fit, he is alittle to honest in his frankness.

It seems impossible for someone to be elected with the courage of their own convictions?

This was not just a deselection. It was not just bloc voting. It was not just organised and vindictive. It was out and out FRAUD.

Although what you describe happens a lot under this system I suspect.

I'm a St Ann's resident and I won't be voting Labour.  I've voted Labour for the last 25 years and probably will for the General Election, but after recent shenanigans in St Ann's ward - no chance.

However, I can't bring myself to vote Lib Dem or Tory either - so I'll probably have to spoil my vote.

I knew  that I should have changed my name

Nope.  I don't think the St Ann's Labour candidates have any mandate to represent me.  As John says above, the selection process was fixed.

Just hope there are viable alternatives - haven't seen any prospective candidates from other parties at any meetings locally.

I come from a Labour background and voted lib dem for the first time in my life last time round and will not be doing it ever again! I to have had enough of politics in the system that stands at present and with the types of people who tend to stand for office...most (I am sure there are the few that truly come from the heart) are concerned more for their own careers in my opinion.

Our local lib dem candidate whom I sadly voted for came to my home when we were fighting for better accommodation more suitable for our needs, we live in a small cottage,  Small open plan living and dining room with stairs running straight up the middle not boxed in. A small double bedroom and a box room, which is below the measurements that were originally stated as being an adequate size for a babies room. My two elder daughters and I and a baby were living in this space together and he did not offer any consolation just suggested that I sleep downstairs... in an open plan small space, with no privacy whatsoever. It angers me!! I wonder how much space he has?

I was brought up in a council house, my parents had bad luck for various reasons and lost their home due to illness and ended up in the council house. My father was the salt of the earth and worked all his life, none of my family ever claimed benefits..... I have had problems because of a hereditary illness... and my marriage fell apart not for my want of trying to retrieve it.  I involve myself daily in helping others despite my problems.... I could not afford to buy my own home as a result and was happy anyhow to be in social housing as property is not important to me, caring and sharing is. That was in the day before Maggie Thatchers butchering of the housing supply, and the lack of parties addressing the problem adequately since. Upgrading property's to suit ones needs was not a problem then but is impossible now.

That this Lib Dem counsellor should say such a thing was heartbreaking, I just wanted him out of my home and life. So many politicians are from middle or upper middle class families and have no idea! And seem to care about nothing other than concerning themselves about what matters to them.... rubbish collection, road safety etc..... I for one have had enough!!!!

Yes gilly, this country has lost its moral compass and runs on a more extreme form of capitalism akin to that of the US. The following article points out many things wrong with Britain today, one being that 70% of all London new builds are bought by foreign buyers, mainly as investments and yes they sit empty. Borris Jonson was asked about this whilst in China recently and simply pushed the issue aside as 'that's what goes on in an international city'. No gilly, none of the 3 main parites care;
